Certainty is like the lottery.  Your chances of getting it in this life…slim-to-none!

I was 33 years old laying in a hospital bed certain I was going to die. I had that same certainty 14 years earlier that my life was going to be happily ever after. The perfect life with the white picket fence, a handsome hubby, 2.5 kids and a dog. Boy was I wrong! What I learned was life was anything BUT certain.

Isn’t that what we all chase after, a certain way of life? We all want to be certain our spouse won’t cheat.  We want to be certain our kids will grow up happy and become successful. We want certainty that our job with benefits will always be there. We want certainty that we’ll always be healthy. Now ask yourself why? Why does certainty mean so much to us as humans beings?

Certainty is a control issue.  We want full control of our surroundings, our relationships, and our financial stability.  Now imagine that control never existed.  Would you still expect a certain life? Would you expect things to go a certain way or would you roll with the punches?

We need to reprogram our minds to adapt to an ever changing society that comes without an ounce of certainty. That is the gap between millennials and generations before them.  They know their is no certainty in this life anymore. They were not brought up on certainty like us older generations were. They were shown a way to do things and then told they could change it, reshape it, or completely dissolve it all based on what purpose it serves in their life today. Imagine the impact that could have on us older generations! Generations ridden with obesity, diabetes, heart disease etc., can have the ability to change our circumstances. We no longer have to accept that this is the life we were certainly meant to live.  We can change it, reshape it or completely alter it based on our ability to change. Now I ask you, what will you change in your life now that you know it’s not etched in stone?

You can always choose a different path, another choice, a new way….for that you can be certain!

Til Next time…
